Here’s a little summary of the novels I’ve written, some of which will never see the light of day. (I’m not bitter — it took a few attempts to get to the level I wanted to be at!)

1) Three Things: A housewife, a hipster, and an introvert each purchase three different enchanted objects in an antique store on the same day. Mayhem ensures, lessons are learned.

The fate of said book: Shelved! I’m a tad embarrassed I ever shared it with anyone. It was a fun idea, but my execution was poor.

2) Madwoman: A misfit finds herself pursued by her own messed-up doppelganger, and she fears she will lose her mind, like her mother did.

The fate of said book: Also shelved! Turns out the whole premise was problematical. It was loosely inspired by my mom’s Alzheimer’s, but one too many industry professionals informed me that the character’s experience looked a lot like schizophrenia, which I don’t have and therefore shouldn’t write about. I absolutely get that. Also, I’m not sure I properly executed the ambiguity of whether it was magic or psychosis. I have no regrets though, because the whole process taught me a lot.

3) The Café of Infinite Doors: An empowering portal fantasy with a braided narrative about a trapped young housewife who secretly takes a job at a magical cafe and finds herself entangled in a dangerous ancient rivalry between two supernatural Scottish sisters.

The fate of said book: This is the book that finally got me an agent, and we’re currently “on submission”, which means we’re looking for an editor at a publishing house to take it on. Whatever happens, I’m super proud that this book has resonated with the people who have read it: it’s all about becoming empowered, saying yes to hope, and breaking away from toxicity.

*Updated* We sold it! Huzzah! Baby’s first book deal!

4) The Circadians (working title): This one is still a secret! Only my critique group and my agent know what it’s about at this point. Sorry not sorry.

🙂

I’ll say this much: it involves a mysterious sleep disorder, which may or may not be a curse, as well as dream traveling and a creepy cult.

As for what’s next, I do have a couple of ideas floating around. Stayed tuned!
